During the french revolution there were many different kind of social classes. Many people in France were critical of the nobility. It was around 400,000 people. Made up an amount of there population. They were wealthy and had a lot of money so they didn't have to pay taxes. They were the part of the society that had many privileges.They maintain positions of importance like officers in an army. the kings were the ones who had the most power. they had absolute power.
peasants were the ones who were treated unfairly. In 1789 peasants had several things to grumble about. one begin to carry the burdens of maintaining the feudal lords and clergy.
i think the cartoonist was trying to show how hard it was to be a peasant. the man with the cane(man on the bottom) would represent the peasant. the man one top of him(one to the left) would most likely represent the
